I have a Red Sea reefer 525, about 120 gallons after rock and sand. I currently have a reef octopus int-200. I'm not thrilled with the pump, a little loud and don't trust it long term. What would you guys suggest for this size tank? Was looking at RO Elite and prime amongst others. Some good sales starting so am trying to get suggestions.

So if I get a new skimmer, how will it work until it's "broken " in in an established tank.

Thanks

I was going to recommend Reef Octopus, I have the 170-int on my 120 and it has been awesome. Only problem I have had in a year is lately my snails keep wanting to hang out in it so I created put screen over the intake. A snail stuck in there makes all kinds of noise, otherwise it is pretty quiet.

Take a look at a Tunze DOC Skimmer 9410 ($329; a DC version is available too for a little more)

Bag can run carbon or GFO, ozone (or fresh air) input, anti-overflow feature, very easy to clean/empty.

One of the best out there – and some unique features to boot!

I also recommend a classic AquaC EV120 or EV180.

Very strong, flexible skimmers. Also very easy to clean, and nice that you can select your own ordinary hobby/utility pump to run with it. (I think I'd prefer to overdrive an EV120 rather than bordering on too large a skimmer with the EV180.....unless you find a killer deal on an EV180.) :)

Think I'm going to go with Reef Octopus Elite. Trying to decide between 150 and 200, I have about 120 gallons of tank with some fish and lots of coral.
