Skimmer vs hob

I currently have a hob filter on my 10gal nano, is there an advantage to upgrading to a protein skimmer. New to the hobby and trying to research as much as possible

For a 10g tank, I would stick with just the HOB like an Aquaclear. You should be able to control parameters through water changes. Skimmer would provide additional filtration like removing organics before they break down and also add aeration. The aeration you'll get from the HOB and again water changes should keep things under control at that size.

Activated carbon in an HOB will also remove doc. Dissolved organic compounds
