So last night on my grow out tank my skimmer decided to go bezerk. It starting producing these micro bubble that were flowing out of the skimmer into the sump. Turned all the water in the sump a milky white color from all the bubbles.
I had not added a single thing yesterday. The only thing I did to the tank was change out my filter sock.
Today after leaving it off all night it is still doing the same thing. But in addition no matter how it is adjusted it is overflowing in the collection cup.
Air line checked, water entry and pump are all clear and okay.

Anyone have any ideas?

Grow out tank is a 25x25x12 rimless with 2 inch crushed coral bed. Sump is about 20 gallons with about 20 pounds of rock and rubble. No light, just skimmer, rock, return pump and ATO sensor.Skimmer is the ASM MiniG with mesh mod, has been running for atleast 5 weeks with out a hitch.

I have had this happen when adding a brand new filter sock....was the sock you added new without washing it?

I rinsed it, but didn't run it through the machine. Is that bad? No soap ever too right?

it could have mild detergents from the factory thats why the skimmer went nuts. I normally put a little bleach in with them when I was them in the machine though.

Whatever is in the water is in now, so I would run the skimmer so it removes whatever is making it go crazy. Skim real dry so it doesnt flow over

I have a ASM G1X and this happened to me one time. I usually wash/soak my socks in the tub first but this time didn't (just rinsed it) and I could feel a little bit of chemical residue from the production process of the sock but was like what the heck and threw it on. Took me a while to get it back to normal but everything in the tank survived. I would take the sock off and wash it in the washer with some bleach. Then re-wash it again without bleach to make sure all is cleaned off. During the washing, let your skimmer run normally and doing a decent water change if possible (about 25%)

Yep, something from the filter sock or something from your hand. It will cease in a few days at the most hopefully. I've had skimmers do this for two weeks because of aqua putty.

Changed the carbon, washed all the other new socks twice with extra rinse. i also skimmed a little wet since the last post, but not over flowing and dumped it. Everything is looking just fine now.

I guess I didn't want to believe it was the filter sock at first and thats why I posted......oh well lesson learned. Do not trust fitlter media, rinse before use.
