SLowing flow rate

I have a 700gph on a 40g breeder. Trying to get everyone view of this, and should i place a valve on the intake side of the pump or should it be on the output side going into the tank??Thanks

If you're trying to show the flow of a pump you should place the valve on the output side. If you put the valve on the intake side you can run your pump dry and ruin it.

Gate valve on the outside is the best bet.

When you restrict the suction side you starve the impeller causing cavitation and microbubbles which damage the pump. When you restrict the discharge side of a centrifugal pump you are adding additional head which actually lessens the work the pump must do so normally reduces the wattage or power consumed, reduces the heat it produces and often makes the pump more efficient by getting it closer to its sweet spot on the pump performance curve.

In short, if you need to restrict the flow, do it on the return side, not the intake.
