Good afternoon all,

I am on the downhill side of a ********’ fight with bryopsis (fluco ftw), and noticed some tubes on some frags now that they are not covered in algae. I am reading a lot of conflicting info, so hoping someone could give me a definite ID, so I can treat accordingly if needed. Photos attached!

Usually any kind of tube will have something living in it. I’m thinking feather dusters? You need to observe the tank until you find what lives inside. Setup a camera if you don’t have the time to watch it. There is a common pest called vermatid snails that live in hard calcifurous tubes too. They are usually thin and long. Feather dusters on the other hand look like feathers and are harmless.

The purple tube is a vermatid snail. You can cover it with superglue, or break it off just make sure you break it off at the rock. If you leave the bottom of the tube they will survive.

Tunicates. For sure. Have tons of them.

Also google your question then type "reef" after your question, that's how I find out a lot of stuff linked back to the r2r pros.
