Just noticed this today. It seems there are small clear hair on some areas on my center rock. Was wondering if anyone knows what it could be?

I’m not sure TBH but translucent, thin, spreading fast, and so many could possibly be hydroids. I’m following to see if that’s accurate. I couldn’t get the best close up look but they aren’t green hairs are they? Then that would be an algae most likely.

either the start of some hair algae or some filter feeder ( hydroids or tunicates)

I don't think its hydroids as there would usually be visible polyps on the end.
Sort of looks like the top of my head 🤪
Some sort of fibrous algae maybe? Is it easy to remove or is it pretty stuck to the rock?

Haven’t tried to remove it. I have noticed a bit more algae growth on the back glass so I’m thinking it’s hair algae.

Hair algae.

Remove is asap.

It's a sign you may have an imbalance that you can correct.

What is your CUC currently? (Only asking about herbivores, not scavengers like hermits or nassarius.)

Do you plan to have corals or something on the rocks that will use all the space and light? Otherwise the algae will claim it. (Roll out that plan! FYI, some folks like to roll out corals BEFORE any other major bio-load goes into the tank.)

Notice though, the “hairs” are in pairs. Which makes me think spionid worms. If they stay clear and don’t turn into hair algae it’s definitely spionids

Alone or in pairs, will they go down the stairs?

I don't think it's Slinky™, but I do think I stand corrected....after zooming in, it's apparent. I think the green background combined with the small view fooled me. :)

Thanks!

+1 to Spionid worms; if they start popping up in your corals, then you may have a major problem; otherwise, they're harmless.
