Hello,

I found this on the back glass of my tank today. I have nassarius, cerith, turbo and trochus snails.

Which one laid eggs and will they hatch if I leave them alone ?

Thank you !

Nothing I have done on purpose... Honestly, I have an Halloween hermit crab that was hunting for shells, (off topic but please) I added new shells to find one that fits... I have a very large spikey type I was going to remove, I turned it over to find small snails inside, honestly I have not changed or done anything differently since adding cuc, except new shells for crabs

I don’t have another post but I was asking you a question and can’t find it. Weird…

I was asking if I should scrape the eggs off the glass, as I don’t have room for hundreds of nassarius snails.
Things that lay many eggs like that at once, usually have low survivability. It is an evolutionary trait. Even if you isolated them and had perfect conditions, I'm sure majority wouldn't make it. I leave my eggs on the glass for things to graze on them. I figured it is good enrichment and probably good source of nutrition for whatever might eat them. For me if I get a couple extra CUC out of it I'd be find with it.

I don’t have any Astrea snails in the tank. I forgot I also have a strawberry conch, which I doubt did this.
strawnerry lays eggs in the sand

Photos 1, 2, 4, 6, and 7 depict dove snails (Columbellidae sp.) and their egg cases, not Nassarius snails. These are algae-grazers that can clean small crevices and areas that larger snails cannot. While I have not had success with Nassarius eggs, my dove snails have been incredibly prolific and almost all egg cases will hatch.

the small circular type bubbles with white eggs I noticed a hole appear in center so I though maybe food for others, (I do have a Mandarin and flame scooter)
The central holes indicate that the dove snails have hatched :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:!

No problems :)
I did not scrape eggs of glass for a while (my aquriam is approximately 1 year old) the small circular type bubbles with white eggs I noticed a hole appear in center so I though maybe food for others, (I do have a Mandarin and flame scooter) so I started to scrape, these type of eggs floated like plastic in my aquriam, the others turned into like dust, it's entirely your choice, I doubt very much you will get thousands of snails but I have only added snails for part of my cuc

Again aquarium was setup a year ago, I added live rock and live sand but live rock was.... Coughs, not live as you would expect, just dipped in something and sold as live lol

Anyway definitely not from rock, I cycled empty for approximately 8 months, only added one cuc of snails :)
