Hoping I could get an ID on a type of snail.

I recently picked up 2 coral banded shrimp from a tank shut down and they threw in an abalone and these two unknown large snails they had.

I thought they were just massive trochus snails or some kind of algae eater so I thought why not. But I think (not 100% certain though) that since adding them I have had some zoas go missing. They also seem to hang around my zoas a lot. Just want to make sure if I have had any go missing that it isn't because of these unknown snails.

And on a separate note I have a turbo snail that seems to have had a sponge or something grow on it. Its slowly gotten larger over time. Anyone know what it is, is this common? I pulled it out and cleaned off most of the fuzzy stuff today but I don't know what caused it.

Cheers,

Yes, they are trochus and aren't the issue with your zoas.

I'm not sure what to say about the thing covering the turbo. I've never seen that before. I think it's a tunicate, though.

Awesome thank you :) I'm not even sure I have had any zoas go missing, it's probably just the snails spending a lot of time on top of them causing them to be shut more.

The stuff covering the turbo was weird. I brushed most of it off though so I'm interested to see if it grows back

Please let us know if it grows back. I'm pretty certain it's a tunicate and although it may be invasive in the wild, it's rarely an issue in our tanks. I've never seen it totally cover a live moving snail like that.
