Yup, that's a gonner. I'd call your LFS and let them know they sold you a clam with a predatory snail inside and hopefully they will give you credit. I'm sure that was spendy.
Yep I think I will contact them tomorrow. Last time I had a fish die they gave me a store credit. They are normally very good to deal with. I wish I had found that snail sooner then I did.

I believe the predatory snail is in the genus Cymatium. Google images and compare
Yep that looks like it. Google came up with an article on a different forum where another person had the same experience as I had

Can you post a pic of the hole or describe it like how big around, beveled or straight edge and how thick the shell was in the area. Also a pic of the snail shell top and bottom.

The lower part of the clam is where the gap is that the snail came out of. It’s maybe 1/2” oval. I don’t see signs of any other snails

There are several species of snails in the genera Cymatium and Chicoreus that prey on tridacnids, some of which can grow as large as 10cm in length (Govan 1995). Most are smaller than this though, and can enter a tridacnid through the byssal opening, or can puncture the mantle by attacking from the shell margin or elsewhere when the shell is open, and then begin to eat a tridacnid’s soft tissues.

I'm not an expert by any means but it appears to me as though the problem snail is linatella caudata a type of cymatium snail.
All the images are of the linatella caudata snail.

I called the store before I went and he said he would replace it. I then said I would show him the pics when I got there. The owner was kind of freaking out about it and called his distributor.
