Ive enjoyed this hobby with all its highs and lows. I believe this is a great hobby and have zero regerts.

It's garbage actually. I'm always fighting algae and the hobby is no longer fun. I fought dinos and won, which then resulted in hair algae and cyano. Which I am currently battling. I used to have a great tank many years ago and since can't quite get it. No matter how I start the tank or husbandry I get dinos then algae. Tearing it down and restarting get's old. It's defeating. I am upping my magnesium to 1600 in one last ditch effort to kill off the hair algae. If it is not successful I am just going to have a hairy fish only system until I eventually break it all down for good.

I’m so very sorry about this. I could only see a partial view of your tank when it was up bc the video wouldn’t play in my phone, but what I could see looked very beautiful! This is definitely the hardest hobby I’ve ever been involved in and like you I have no regrets.

I love fish, not so much the coral. I have a 40G FOWLR and a 20G AIO coral tank. If one had to go it would definitely be the coral tank. I'm glad I scratched that itch but definitely wish there was an easier out than something that would potentially end with the loss of life.

I've been down that road my friend. One of my first Red Sea tanks when it was truly popping. Had to swap tanks and never was able to get that balance again.

This tank i started using the Zeovit system. Never had any issues. Heck I even neglected the tank for about a year while I helped my brother open his restaurant. No water changes or testing. I was still dosing the zeo system haphazardly. When I was finally able to catch my second wind, I was able to bring the tank back up to standards within a about 6 weeks.

You might want to look into it. Even if you just did the cyanoclean and the Coral snow. I think you would see a big difference. Be fore warned though that the Coral Snow Plus has a KH reducer and can't be used nightly like the coral snow. It will pull all kinds of nasties out your tank.

I never had luck with smaller tanks. Although my first saltwater tank was a 32 gallon Biocube. I think they need more attention imho.
I had a friend that was a wiz at them though. i guess whatever ecosystem you try and create it just takes time to go thru the learning curve.

What's the saying? "If it were easy everyone would do it."
But on the flipside, when you get it , WOW!, what a reward.

I like to say reefkeeping is like marriage. When it's good it's fantastical, when it's bad it's horribly stressful.

How many people that are having issues started with dry rock?

Idk. My last reboot is was more interested in the dry "life" rock instead of seasoned live rock.

I originally loved all the life coming out of the live rock and is probably what helped sink the hook for reefkeeping.
But then the nasties started coming out. Aiptasia, asterinas and termites. Hate to leave out any pests but those seem to be the big nasty 3.

Dry rock bypasses that but you have to pull a little harder thru the uglies.

I went through the uglies in my tank with live rock start , it is much easier to handle than dry rock, I think people react tooo much to the uglies when sometimes the best thing to do is leave it alone and let it balance. I stopped cleaning the glass and fed even more during the uglies to ensure dinos didn’t go crazy

The frustrating thing for me is even when everything else is going well in a mixed reef (great color, growth, lack of pests /algae, stable parameters etc) there is always one coral or two that is stagnant, going backwards or loses its vibrant color and looks meh.

Ups and downs like always. Beat a hair algae outbreak and the tanks were humming along nicely. Then they had to do some work on my condo building so I had to move all of my tanks, so now they're recovering from that.
