I’m as new as it gets…. Have a desire but in the planning stages, and ashamed to admit I bought Saltwater Aquariums for Dummies…

Welcome to R2R !

Never be ashamed when seeking knowledge. If you are feeling overly modest, I'd be glad to tell you stories that will confirm you are ahead of me. ;)

There is a wealth of knowledge here that you will find friendly and accessible.

Keep learning and move ahead with your plans. It will all work out.

Best wishes for 2022,
Jim, a humble novice

Welcome to the salty side and the community! I haven't seen the saltwater for dummies book but from my understanding these books are written by knowledgeable people. You can always read it and follow-up with searches on here and read the sticky threads in each section, especially the "new to saltwater section". Feel free to ask questions. It is better to do your research first. It leads to better success and remember to take it slooooow. Nothing good comes from rushing this hobby and it ends up being the inhabitants that suffer as well as your bank account. :)

Welcome! Glad you joined. OH MY GOSH - didn't know there was such a thing but bet it is awesome! Now I want to go look for it. Feel like there are just too few books these days about the hobby. Good for you!

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I wish I had started in my planning phase where you are. Instead, I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This is a good reference book type online article I still review (same as mentioned in #3):

Research can be overwhelming so take it slow.
Best advice I can give, form a PLAN.
Check a few build threads to see what type of system you want.
Get as big of a system that you can afford and fit into available space.
Get all equipment prior to adding water. That includes all test kits, ro/di water system and a storage system.

Thats a good start, imo.
OH and......
