31 and since I was 15 have not been without a salt water tank. I purchased a 300gal when I was 19 which due to my inexperience was only a success when I constantly maintained it. I had it for four years. Since then I have just kept one or two fish in a RSM130d with one failed attempt to keep seahorses (unable to get quality food where I lived).

I have just purchased a 200 gal together with my wife which will be a reef using the wwc/brs method. I feel due to my age, experience and patience that this will be a long running success.

I’m 16 years (junior in highschool), started reefing 2 years ago.
I like to mess with nps coral lol
I created a group chat on Instagram that consists of young reefers ranging from age 14-17.
One of em collects high end Cornbred pieces while another half cracked the code for keeping crinoids alive in captivity.
It’s really cool how so many young people can solve mysterious problems that haven’t been solved by more experienced reefers.
Any young reefers can pm me if interested.
Nice one ,its good to see a new generation in the hobby.

I started in college around 1980. I don't remember what tank I started with, but I built from scratch two tanks with glass I got at a thrift store. I made the trip with tank( or tanks ) each spring and fall (5 hours)to and from college. Don't remember loosing many fish in the trips. I do remember not being able to keep fish alive for more than a year (except yellow tail damsels). That was frustrating. Now I wonder if those problems were due to cyanide capturing, and other problems. After a tank crash due to a heater malfunction, I let the tank sit for 4-5 years and then a few years ago I started up again. With the forums and internet resources I have learned a lot since returning to the hobby and realizing the dream I had in college of keeping corals.

im 65, had my first tank 1971. back then we had was under gravel filters crushed cockle shell on top of that and water out of the tap mixxed with a salt that i bet was not to brilliant. Thats where i developed my fondness for electric blue damsel fish they were one of the few fish that did not die to quickly. Living rock that we got back then was brilliant tho, full of life. still got most of it after all these years

I am 14 right now and started when I was thirteen. The biggest problem I have is no money or job. My tank hasn't really suffered too much because of it though. I am very mature for my age

I am 34 years old and I have been keeping tanks since I was 16 but I used to setup a couch in front of my dads 55 gallon reef every time I visited him for as long as I can remember.

I’m 30 and been keeping tanks since I was 4, started my first reef tank when I was 13.
I did have a four year break after moving and starting a new career but I’ve been at it for about three years now.

I got into it because I live on the sound in NC and I loved walking at low tide and catching all sorts of stuff with my hands. Squid, blue crabs, hermits, flounder all sorts of fish. It was so cool. My parents are not exactly supportive but are okay with it. Except if I spill 1 drop of water. Then I'm in trouble

I'm 48. I didn't setup my first saltwater tank until around 20 years ago or so. But, I think it was inevitable. When I was 13 I volunteered at a marine sciences center -- mostly cleaning tanks, cleaning plumbing, etc. It was all the grunt work and I loved it.

I'm 49...i have had tanks for as long as I can remember. My dad was a commercial fisherman so always had something in a glass box. Got serious around age 30.
