Somatic 60 skimmer issue

I have finally got my first saltwater tank running. I've dialed in the pump and valve on the Bean Animal system so that it runs quietly. I started up my Somatic 60 Protein Skimmer and it was running fine until this morning. When I checked it this morning the bubbles were over flowing and the cup was full of water. I moved the adjustment tube everywhere from 100% to 0% and can't seem to stop the bubbles from blowing the top off the cup. I have the skimmer located in the same compartment of my sump as the drain lines. Anyone have any suggestions?

I've been reading some of the articles and watched the Bulk Reef Supply video. I'm guessing that since it's a new tank with no waste there's nothing to skim so all I'm getting is the micro bubbles that are popping the top off the cup. I'm going to leave it off until I cycle the tank and start adding fish. Does this sound right?
