Hey all.
About a week ago I put in a new tomi tang to my system.
And it kinda sparked some aggression in the system. I put a mirror and it kinda died down.
This morning I noticed a bunch of marks over my sailfin and the tomi tang.
Is it some disease?
The fish aren't acting out of the ordinary or anything.
Am I just being paranoid?
Also no I don't qt.

No, not paranoid.

Maybe I see some white dots on the Sailfin. (Or the glass or both). Early ick, maybe.

I see maybe a nip mark on tomi, right side.

Keep a watch and see if the marks disappear over the next few days, then, reappear a little more than before.

Keep a watch for flashing, rubbing, no eating.

If it os ick I don't know what to do. I don't have the resources to that and qt all of my fish.
I'm making shure to keep everyone fed and as healthy as possable.

No panic. I could be very wrong as well. If it is, it’s not a very advanced case.

I cannot pull fish like you, so fortunately or unfortunately, anyone who does get it will either beat it, or die, can’t change that.

Yes, great, normal feeding, normal everything, no changes.
I’ve had ick a few times over the years but never need to QT.
Nobody caught it and the infected blue tang just lost it. Three times in 6 years. Just that fish.

Keep everything stable and no stress.

Watch to see what happens with the Sailfin and others.

Keep us updated and the disease gurus may chime in.

Alright.
My other tank we had a royal gramma end up in the tank with bad ich. Went into a rock and died and no other sights of it or ick.

My hopes are a little up.
I have my old uv filter from my last aio in the sump. But ots not properly set up at all. Who knows if it acually is doing anything.

That’s a good move. It won’t hurt.
Ick of course can kill all fish, but, I’ve yet to have that happen.
The process is slow as ick doesn’t really want to lose its hosts.

The next step is to see if it clears up in a day or 3.

I guess it ptobobly means that the 2 or 3 little air bubbles I saw on the Tomi tangs fins might have been ick.
But it did dissappear by the time I got home so I figured it wasn't.

And maybe it's not ich at all and it's just aggresion marks from them nipping at eachother.

Could be either or nothing.
I have a blue that gets 12-15 whites dots every 6-8 months, they stay for 3-4 days then nothing, then back next day or two in same amount, gone in 3-4 days. After 6 weeks of this he’s clean.
Is that ick? Looks and acts that way. But nobody else never catches anything…..but Iam glad I didn’t pull nothing out, it would destroy everything.

I’m convinced in some minor infections that doing nothing is best.

Fingers crossed!

Well if it does end up being something and if it comes and goes.
When I move and get a super big tank I'll just treat and qt everything.

Once we get a big big tank we're acually going to start to qt stuff.
We've been saying this is almost like a qt in our current displays.

QT is always best, but, I QT’d everybody in the beginning, but still got ick down the road.

Super stable water chemistry, good food and low stress is all I do now. If the fish dies, it dies, sorry that’s really cold but I know if I start pulling and treating, I’ll kill more than the fish.

Many fish are cost effective to replace, unlike corals.
(Cold I know)

Best of luck.

Unfortunately, that is why its best to QT them before they go in. Its not a fun lesson to learn if the infection gets overwhelming.

You can run hyposalinity in the tank and put inverts in a bin/tub/tank for the treatment period. If you can't do that, an oversized UV with (ideally) nightly siphoning of the sand may help cut down on the amount of infection.

I might try to get a uv.

Any good recommendations?
The tank is 90gal running at probobly 600gph.
The return pump can go up to 1100gph
