hello all, the clam maxima arrived today, and is acclimating. it reacts to the light, and can flip itself, but I'm quite concerned about the tissue under its shell. Is it normal? thanks.

It's very important that the clam remain in an upright position, receive adequate light.
Congratulations on acquiring a Tridacna.

Its the connective tissue that the clam made from its byssal gland (e.g. 'foot'). It must have been attached to something before you got it, and someone cut the connection (hopefully, carefully since forceful removal can damage the clam). Its perfectly normal; it will likely shed that tissue and create a new connection once it gets established in your tank.
