Sorry getting hammered by bots again this morning!

We create rules to top them and then they figure out something else.

Bear with us while we figure it out. You may get a Cloudflare challenge or two. UGGGGG!

That explains this error we get:

Contact your hosting provider letting them know your web server is not completing requests. An Error 522 means that the request was able to connect to your web server, but that the request didn't finish. The most likely cause is that something on your server is hogging resources.

Dang bots hogging resources. Pretty soon Grok and its fellows are going to act like mafioso, with some offering costly protection against others who attack to drive the need for protection. lol

We simply just need to go to nuclear war with bots

I figured it was more work being done on the update from a couple days ago.
Looks like you are winning.

One day we will. But 1st we need to finish building them and training their Ai "brains"...

The worst part of this statement is how true it is... I genuinely do not know how people don't see the writing on the wall. DID NO ONE WATCH AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON??

How often should we be getting those "cloudfare challenges" if im not at home on my wifi it comes up nearly every time I try to access a thread or refresh a page.

Only a minor annoyance when im trying to browse the forums while im at work 😉

You see the report that came out showing that many of the AI platforms have started to realize when they are being tested and will change their responses accordingly to pass the test then revert back to something else.....

Something like 1/2 of all internet traffic is bots these days. (The number depends on what report you read.) Either way, It's out of control.

The app is barely usable this morning. There's only the swimming cool clownfish. I've resorted to the browser on mobile.

Should be good now!

Thank you. Deployed some new rules for bots and turned off the "under attack" so let's see how it goes!

Should stop getting them as of now unless I have to enable attack mode again. Hopefully the newly deployed rules will stop them.

Y'all let me know if FROM THIS POST forward you're running into any cloudflare challenges or issues on the forum. ONLY from this post only! I will update if need be. Thank you.

You should consider using Cloudflare to block AS numbers for hosting companies. This may also block people using VPNs to access the site, but in my experience these are mostly scammers/spammers.

Of course you don't want to block hosting companies that are host to any services your site utilizes. It can get tricky with AWS and other larger hosts.

I administer another large forum (not reefing related) and the bot issues are minor these days.

Any custom rules you want to share please message me! HA!

So - my understanding is these bots are scraping the site for data. That in turn allows that information to show up in web searches. As a content provider, doesn’t that help increase exposure? For example; lots of other sites say, “mix Focus with medication” and feed that to your fish. That’s wrong. If I correct that issue on this site enough times, won’t the bots take that correct info out there to help others?

Is there a way to balance, not eliminate bots?

I saw that they tend to blackmail people when given the opportunity
