I got my tank in my basement. Lately I have seen some pretty good size spiders down there. Any recommendations on how to get rid of them. I just tried spraying one with salt water . But I have read some spiders will tolerate saltwater. Any suggestions? Candles plants etc... if this spider takes residence near or in my dt will it get my fish like clowns fish, tang one spot fox face, starfish, leopard wrasse, red damsels.

I dont think it will get your fish, unless its a water spider.... Have you tried spraying peppermint around your basement?

Peppermint should work very well to get them away from the tank, but why would you want them gone? They pose no threat to the tank, so unless you just don't like spiders I wouldn't see a reason to get rid of them.
God bless!

Food grade diatomatecious earth. Comes with a puffer, cover the tank with a sheet and puff the earth all over the basement especially in the floor cracks or anywhere that they might hide. They must have some sort of food source and the earth cuts insects to ribbons but is harmless to humans and animals. Got rid of all my spiders ants everything.

Oh that makes a lot more sense then lol Yeah, peppermint or vinegar should work well, good luck!
There is no species of spider in Iowa that could pose a risk to your fish...
I just don't like spiders at all. I had some salt water made up for my tank so I filled a spray bottle. And sprayed one. It ran under my tank stand.

Get some of those sticky mice traps and place along your baseboards. Spiders almost always run along the edge of the baseboards and the floor and they'll get stuck on the traps! No chemicals or funky smells.

Pretty sure your fish would make quick work of any spider that fell in your tank.
Almost want to give it a try now. We have wolf, tarantulas and black widows in the abundance here.
