Looks more of like collected fish food on plug of coral. However, torch has not been expanding past month or so like previously.

Possible sponge but pic somewhat fuzzy. Assure glass and camera lens are both clean

Lol tried like hell, the depth of coral surrounding structures tough to get focused on what I want.
Other option, have someone shine flashlight at area and take pic

With flashlight
Perfect !!
This is a poriferan sponge, likelt cryptic sponge. While harmless can evade your frag. Expose to air or inject with vinegar to stop its growth
Other option- Place frag in container of tank water and carefully scrape off with a Paring knife

I used a long coral feeder and gently scraped against "sponge" it came right off with no resistance. Almost as how I thought it was excess food stuck there. This is aftermath.. sure it's ticked right now but all in all does torch look healthy?

Torch is retracted somewhat but likely irritated
Assure nitrate and phosphate not elevated and salinity and temperature in range

I'm working on getting nitrate and phosphate up. Recently bottomed out, still no detection on salifert phosphate test but getting 5-10 nitrates. I need to get my salinity and temp checked, I live in south alabama and tank is near entrance to front door with semi large transom window above door. We keep house cool, 72 during day and 66-67 at night. Not sure how the fluctuates temperature in tank

Get rid of that sponge it will destroy your tank if left to it’s own devices trust me I’m having to tear my tank down due to said sponge

Inject the sponge with air or vinegar as it will invade your torch.
