Hi, in a daze this morning, I put half of the Korallen Sucht Sponge Power bottle into my quarantine tank which is filled with gorgonians. It represents about 5ml of dose. I've searched and there doesn't seem to be a list of ingredients anywhere so I really don't know what I'm dealing with. I did an immediate 50% water change and will monitor nutrients/chemistry. Does anyone know what's in this stuff? Any thoughts on mitigation? Thanks in advance.

Probably silicates. That is what is in brightwell SpongExcel
Thanks. I'm just wondering whether this is going to have any effect given that the dosage is one drop per day for 25 gallons. It kinda raises the question of whether this stuff is even worth dosing. but I may be talking out of my hat as I haven't done any testing yet.

Thanks Eric. Half a bottle is 5ml. Tank is 25gallons. I put in about 300 days worth of dosing. There's kinda a catch 22 here: if the stuff does anything, then 300 days all at once surely could be catastrophic. On the other hand, how much can 5 ml contain of silicon, or acetic acid, or something organic. Would need to be something highly concentrated that is their "secret sauce".

If it's just silicates I have way overdosed it before without much happening besides diatoms on the sand and glass.

Silicates won’t be an issue, if that’s the only ingredient.
Hi Randy, thanks for dropping in and for all you do. You're the chemistry God of this forum. Eric showed me some previous threads to which you've already contributed like 6 years ago about the contents of Sponge Power. Someone had sent for ICP which came back with iron and manganese. I don't know this but it sounds like it's more about marketing sizzle than any "secret sauce." I guess I'm doing the experiment for the board on whether it does anything!!

I’d keep it simple after the 50% water change: run fresh carbon, keep strong flow, and watch the gorgonians for any mucus or tissue reaction. I wouldn’t chase anything aggressively unless you actually see a problem, since 5 ml total may still not be a huge amount of active ingredient depending on what’s in it.

Salifert makes a silicate test kit. It’s always a good idea to test for things that you are dosing. I used to dose it for my sponges and tunicates. But stopped once they started getting large.
