sps and stray voltage

does anyone know how stray voltage will effect sps corals? I will get a slight tingle on any small cuts when I put my hands in my frag tank. I have a few colonies that have lost color and wondering if that might be the issue.

I recently had two frags start to STN in my QT (not the ones I got from you:-). I checked all water params and kept an eye on them for a week or so, but they continued to slowly lose flesh. When I reached in to grab them to take a closer look I got zapped. Turned out it was my cheap amazon UV sterilizer. After replacing that the STN stopped one frag, but the other was a goner by then.

Whether it is affecting your SPS or not, you should figure out what it leaking voltage and get it out.

Quick hijack, @fishguy242 why both? I'm planning on one in the sump as I figure I'm running one drain full siphon so should have a complete water connection, however maybe I'm not considering something

i feel 2 is always better than one if only in sump,shut down for maintanece ,poss loose in tank??for extra 10$ feel worth both:)

There's very little chance that little chance that stray voltage is bothering your corals. However, it's best to address and faulty equipment that may be "leaking".

Not sure stray voltage would be your problem ,as I do remember reading a article several years ago about using voltage on man made reefs to make the acros grow faster. I think the practice is still being used. But I've never looked into it. For fear of trying it lol.

Do you ground your corals? Voltage is relative. Current is what matters.

So felt what seemed like dipping a cut in alcohol when I put my finger with ripped cuticle in DT tonight. However in the sump I felt nothing. Pulled all wavemakers and it seemed to go away. Then in no order starting plugging them back in. It seems that with 3 plugged in I can feel it but not as much with two.
Is this from stray or just induction?

Seems like stray voltage. I would use a voltmeter and stick one end in the tank and one in the ground of a nearby outlet. Then plug each wavemaker in one by one, and throw away each one that shows any voltage over a couple volts.

I have had stray voltage cause tissue necrosis in a Stylophora...we'll I'm reasonably sure that was the cause.

Edit: Are the wavemakers line AC voltage, or are they DC?
