Good news and bad news.

Bad news - Someone bumped the hang-on UV sterilizer I had in my sump for a bacteria issue. This caused 10-15 gallons of water to go on the basement carpet, which I wasn't quite able to fully cleanup. This led to a slight smell, mainly if you put your nose within inches of the carpet...

Good news - My wife said we should get new carpet. I pointed out that would be hard with the existing tank still installed. She asked how long it would take to install the SCA150 I had sitting in the garage. Challenge accepted.

Equipment list:

SCA150 drilled for external box
Modular marine 1600 gph overflow
48" 8 bulb dimmable ATI Sunpower
Trigger Sapphire CR44
Aquamaxx RC-2
Simplicity 3200 DC
Vortech MP40QD x2 (from old tank)
Vortech MP10QD (from old tank, if it actually sticks to the glass!)
Apex with Trident and DOS pump

The aquarium will be an in-wall setup with two sides visible. Originally, I wanted to do a bar ledge around the tank like this:

However, it was going to be a little too cramped with our furniture arrangement in the basement. I elected to do a slightly shorter stand, which enables us to use a chair / endtable configuration. I build a 60x24x30" (LWH) stand using the Rocketengineer design.

It was so easy to build, I ended up building another one for my sump / water storage containers. Here they are coated with primer.

Is the primer sufficient for coating the stand, or do I need to put something else on it also? I was considering applying a coating of polyurethane, but would prefer to just install as is . Thoughts?

Progress has been OK so far. Decided to put up FRP in the fish room to hopefully improve the water protection.

New sink is installed and water change station / sump stand in temporary place. It will be about two more feet to the right.

Wall was removed and stand in place! Unfortunately, I need to level the floor. Because it is out of level front to back and side to side, I am planning on using self leveling cement. The instructions on the bag require a concrete surface profile 3 before the pour. It sounds like this is approximately 40 grit, which the brush finish looks like to me. Debating on whether I need to rough it up more or not...

Lots of catching up to do here!

I ended up switching out to a steel stand from crystal dynamics. I was cheap, so I selected delivery to a nearby freight terminal. Of course, when I went to pick it up, everyone was out for deliveries! I had to drag it off the dock and put it in the minivan myself!

I coach baseball / softball most of the year, so even getting to there took an embarrassingly long time! But at least we had a good season!

Now it’s time to start moving the old tank over. Little nervous about how that will end up going!! Lots of corals to move!

Got everything moved! Fingers crossed the corals don’t get too upset…. Also, if I ever mention getting a sandbed again, someone please punch me. Cleaning out the old tank was awful!

Lights just went off as I was cleaning up. Must be time for a couple of drinks….
