SPS ID please

I was considering the full tank treatment with the flakes, I don’t have any shrimp, I only have a few hermits that I could relocate temporarily. I don’t have cloves but I do have gsp, which I would not mind losing. Aside from that, I don’t think anything else is reported to be affected

I also was considering the idea of a higher concentration dip, with the crushed up flakes being given time to dissolve and then dipping this mini colony for a half hour per day. I’m making the regime up as I have not seen posts about a dip but figured it should work same as a tank treatment, just at a higher concentration

I believe the full tank treatment takes a while because it’s low concentration to minimize effect on inverts. Could be wrong
I don’t recall which corals I’ve read that had to recover after this treatment, but I do remember there were more than just GSP and cloves.

As far as dipping with higher concentration - I doubt it’ll have the same affect as a full tank treatment, if at all. Spinoids have the ability to hide for long periods of time. I believe that when they try to get outside their tube while you dip it, they’ll sense that something is wrong and will hide back into their tube unaffected. However, in a full-tank treatment scenario they’ll eventually have to get out at some point to eat.
I’m also concerned that a higher concentration may harm the Acropora itself.

Thank you. I had another idea also.

What if I put the coral in a container, on my tank lid. And waited for the worms to come out. Then add the medicine one drop at a time, near them, waiting a few min between each drop. Think I can very very slowly medicate the water while it’s out….and get it to a level that’s toxic?

I honestly can't tell if those branches are encrusted vermetid tubes or actual corallites. It's definitely an Acroporid of some sort, either Montipora or Acropora.

I don’t think spinoids ever really get used to it, but rather their hunger pushes them to tolerate it while they hunt for food.

It’s all my own speculation though, so it is possible that your method would work just fine, and you may need to experiment with it to find the correct rate and concentration.

If you are going with this route - I recommend at the very least to cut a small, healthy frag and put it aside, just as an insurance in case something went wrong with your experimentation.

Edit: Oh, and please document it for us all :)

This is what I have read as well. Basically has to be continuous treatment.

It’s been transported to my lab
3.5 cups sw

Dip made 2 gram medicated flake + 1” sw in a kitchen solo cup. I’ll get the oz later

A few have come out already. Once they all look out, I will start

any updates?
I have around 90% kill rate estimate

A few times I thought it was 100% but with giving it some time I see 3-4 left. Which is great considering how many I originally had

I have to move the colony to get better pics but here is

thanks, in the pre moving picture it appears that the coral health has improved since the pre treatment pictures,
I still see the palps in the chimney of some of the worms, hopefully no one is home in most of them.
keep up the good fight.

Yes. I wouldn’t say total success. But I dealt a good blow and knocked out a bunch in the first round.

Upon close inspection the colony had tons of them. It is significantly reduced.

Now. What next.

Repeat same way?
Repeat same way, longer duration?
Repeat with higher concentration?
Repeat, -!: repeat daily for a few days ?

I would break off all of those encrusted tubes and repeat. Give those guys less tube space to hole themselves off.

I am not sure they are encrusted tubes or actual acro branches growing

I've seen these on some of my spionid-infested corals (branching cyphastrea, monti cap), and they've all been tubes. I think the SPS branches tend to grow thicker.

I have them on some acro as well and ordered some fenbendazole today. I was going to break the tank down and reset it. I am glad to find out the med kills them and has been used in display tanks. I have one frag for the test dummy.
I would dip the coral again with the flake. As mentioned break off the tubes before treatment. A pipette or turkey baster could be used as well to hopefully dislodge the worms and "push" the med into the tunnels.
Thanks for sharing your experience
