My tank has been running for a month now and everything is going good all parameters are in check.I have been adding frags into my tank for about a week now and everything is doing fine, except when I got home from work today just one of my acros that I picked up from a local reefer last friday peeled itself away but everything else is fine and flourishing.I noticed last night before I went to bed that the polyps on this no name frag werent extended like they had been days prior but thought it was just irritated for some unknown reason.Does anybody know why just one frag would RTN while the rest look fine?By the way a little description on this acro,it lookked like a echinata maybe it was but not too sure,it had a cream base with very brite yellowish green tips and very fuzzy.

Can you share a bit about how you acclimate / dipping procedures when you place new SPS in your system? This may just be a fluke - it happens sometimes with SPS. But this can happen if SPS is not acclimated properly or if there is a pest involved.

Also, what lighting was the frag under before and what type of lighting did you place it under?

the sad thing is some corals just choose to RTN, sometimes it can stop sometimes fraging can help. you say your par. are in check but what about other things. Flow changes? how old are your bubl maybe a little more detail on the tank and spec? what fish and critters do you have?

You are adding acros in a tank that is only a month old. I would wait till your tank is at least 6 months at a minimum and don’t add corals to fast. Have you checked your alk , cal and po4.

My tank is a 24x24x20 cube, lighting is a 6x24w ATI Powermodule, flow is 2x MP10,as for fish im not really in to them just 3 damsels so my tank is a very low nutrient tank. The tank it came from had been established for 5 years and was a 120g.One of the things I was thinking about was it went from a higher nutrient tank to mine and just pretty much starved but the thing is that it was looking good and in my mind even looked better in my tank then where it came from for the last 5 days, polyps fully extended and was just looking better. Also the tank it came from was running on 2 250w hqi bulbs if that means anything. As far as acclimation,I let the bag sit in my sump and slowly add 5ml of my water to it every 10mins. for an hour then I move it into the DT and put it at the bottom for 2 days then moved it to about 12" below the water surface.Oh and Im also running the SWC Xtreme 160 Cone and 2 single BRS reactors for GFO and Carbon.

the only thing I can think of is that the coral got stressed in your tank or stung by a another coral. I have had issues when I get corals form wholesalesers that have there alk really high or low and the coral stresses and then when I put it in to my system the coral does rtn a little. I dip all my corals in revive and now I just switched over to Coral Rx.zI t really does a good job with removing AEFW and many other pests.

It is really hard to tell what is happening in your system. keep an eye on the rest of your corals. Dont do any drastic changes.

My tank is ok im just looking into what can cause just a single sps to RTN.My rock was cured for 7 weeks using nothing but RO/DI water from a airwaterice.com Extreme Typhoon and my equipment and husbandry is is top notch at least my wallet seems to think so.This is not my first tank but is the first time I have run into this situation.I hear where your coming from but im not new to this hobby and I really dont think you have to wait 6 months to add frags to your system as long as your husbandrry skills and equipment are on point.

The system it came from was running on a SQWD and my smaller system is running on 2 vortech MP10s and my lighting is as old as the setup itself,I purchased everything at once.

anytime a change in environment could lead to RTN, not all the time thankfully. Anyhoo SPS are sensitive to new tanks, can it be done.. yes... but def dont over do it, if your adding a lot of corals dont add to many fish too fast. Rtn remains a mystery

I agree with others. Sometimes acros just stress.
On a side note I would also strongly consider dipping new corals. AEFW can set you back in a huge way.

I usually do but in this case I got it from a friend and I know his tank is fine and pest free, but I definitely need to reguardless.Thanks.

look at this way, if you have 20 corals in there and there fine and just one decides to rtn, its prolly not your fault, sps is sensitive but i can tell you rite now i have over 80 different acro's and there all happy but occasionally i get a finiky piece like my orgeon tort that decides its time to start peeling.....if 79 others are happy and 1 goes i dont think it's my fault.....it's just like the real world, you cant keep everyone happy lol....
