By chance do you do regular water changes? I have seen this with some who don't do water changes and do not supplement trace, which is my second question. Not saying other things can be the issue, and sometimes light can be a factor, as well as nipping, mentioned above.

I am curious also. My Pink Cadillac colonies have a few of these. I didn't give it too much thought, just figured it was a random growth mutation. Or it got physically damaged along the way.

I've had one acro that did this, was a small piece with a few branches. Then the tips turned to blobs like your picture, and now its regrowing new tips. As if it encrusted over itself.

I don't do water changes, but I do dose trace elements. I'm not sure that is related, I have tons of other acros that haven't done this.

I have lost about 4 colony's recently but none had the weird growth. I do think I have some bacterial thing going on in my tank as I have dipped them, put them under a microscope, used a magnifying glass, even had my son who has the best vision in my house look at them. I have yet to find flat worms or any bugs.

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
