Hi all,

I got this SSC on Dec 15. It has turned from a lovely green with pink tips to a brown / red. Is this browning out? Bleaching?

I had a triton test sent in on the 30th that has come back with the only discrepancies being Potassium at 570, Iron at 9.6

Parameters:

Salinity: 35 from Milwakee
Alk: 8.4 - 8.7 on Trident and Salifert
Calcium: 420-430 on Trident
Magnesium: 1400 on Trident
NO3: 5-10 on Salifert
PO4: .03 - .1 on Hanna

Par at this location: 300 via Neptune PMK ( sensor only without rock). with a 5 hour peak

Looks like it is browning out. It’s likely been affected by your parameters and light although your parameters look good...it’s the sudden change from one tank to another. A lot of corals will brown out in a new tank until they get acclimated which can honestly take up to a year for some corals in extreme cases. Acros don’t like change and some can be extremely cranky.

Well considering the colony covered in algae and dying, that frag is going through the same thing and is slowly dying as well, it doesn’t even look healthy. Something is off in your tank for sure.

The colony is a maricultured piece from the LFS that came in completely bleached and is starting to color up where it didnt die completely within the first few days.

The SSC is showing some recession at the tips that I am not sure why. Dinos are appearing on those tips that I am fighting with UV.

It’s more than bleached lol it has algae growing on it lol and it’s stn’ing... Also that isn’t Dino’s but typical diatoms that one sees in areas of recent tissue loss at tips will become a hair algae as you see on that colony.
