Stand bowing

I bought specifically an aquarium stand. Pretty sure I assembled correctly. There is metal support bar under the top surface but the edges of the top surface sit a bit higher than the support bar so when I put water in tank, it sagged down till the middle rested on the support bar.

35” wide stand, 1/8” higher on each end than in the middle. Tank occupies middle 16”. Directly under left side of tank, no gap between top surface and support bar. Directly under right side of tank about 1-2mm gap.

I don’t anticipate any additional sagging as the metal support bar is pretty solid.

Is this amount acceptable for a rimless tank? It does have a self-leveling matt under it. Not sure how much that helps.

That looks suspect to me, and I think would get worse over time without some sort of reinforcement.

I guess they expect aquarium to occupy the whole stand? This way it will be even pressure... I would reinforce definatelly, but I'm not a structural engineer... just my 2cents - reinforce...

Also it's not clear did you put an aquarium mat under tank?

I think I either got a defective one or some design issue as the sides should not be taller than the metal support? It shouldn’t sag any more, at least the part under the tank since it is flush with the metal. I was able to tighten a screw on the right side which was slightly holding up that side under the right edge of tank so now there is no gap between the support bar and the top surface for the length of the tank. Where the tanks edges are, I can’t even get a fingernail between the surface and the support bar so perhaps that’s good enough?

Took some more pics with back lighting to see the small gap.

Was hoping to add my first fish tomorrow but after discovering this, if I’m gonna fix it, would rather do that first.

Yes there is a leveling mat underneath!

100%, the support should sit flush with the underside of the top. I would agree, either it was defectively cut, or improperly assembled. If it was mine, i would tripple check to make sure everything was right and i didnt accidentally have anything upside down or backwards somehow before labeling it defective though.

Just double checked assembly and I don’t think there’s any other way to assemble it. It’s clear which is inside vs outside of the side panels. And there are only holes for hinges on the front.

After checking a bunch of measurements, it seems the issue was that the holes for the metal support bar were slightly too low. Added 1/8” piece of flat aluminum on top of the support bar and everything is level now.

Functional fix, I like it. Is the tank sitting on the back edge of the stand as well and is there another support on the back edge?

Yep! there’s metal support on the back edge as well and tank sits on top of that part as well
