hello all im finally gonna start my build next week once the rest of my rocks come in just some quick questions how do I make a build thread on here lol I would love to document how it all comes along 2 I'm using a canaster filter and 2 HOB filters both rated for 70+ gallons do I really need a protein skimmer/how do they work? I've read some about them but kinda confused on how to use it.. excited to start it up haven't had a big reef tank before only nanos also is a ATO worth it/needed never used one before either thanks guys!

An ATO I think is important on any sized tank, if nothing else, it's a pain to top off manually all the time.

A protein skimmer you may not need, though they are handy tools for tanks using all HOB gear. I'd start without one and see how it goes.

Make your build thread so we can all follow along!

Good luck with your build!

Thank you, I'll start it soon. Once everything gets here, I don't think I've been as excited to start a build before so I'm excited to see where it goes.

also any good ATOs you guys recommend, and would a 6-gal reserve be good enough, or should I go bigger?
Tunze Osmolator.

Size of ATO tank is mostly dependent on where you can put it. If it fits inside the cabinet, I would get as big as you can fit reasonably... Just means you have to fill it less often.... But when I had a similar size tank with a 10g ATO, I had to fill it once a week.

hmm ok i do have a extra 10 gal that would fit under the cabinet so maybe ill try that

I've got a 5 gallon reservoir on a 25 gallon tank, and a single five gallon reservoir that feeds a ten gallon and a 15 gallon. Both last me about two weeks or so. You rate here will vary from season to season.
