Start with a location of where you want to put your tank. Away from a window is best.
Next the size of your glass box. With or with out sump.

This hobby requires a fair amount of research to get started. I would not suggest using dechlorinated tap water, most of us use purified RODI filtered water, or you can purchase distilled water, or some local fish shops will sell both purified fresh water and premade salt water.

At the least, you will need one or possibly two circulation pumps, but most use some kind of a filter too. For small tanks, you can use a Hang On Back (HOB) filter like the Seachem Tidal or Fluval Aquaclears. Very popular are All-In-One (AIO) tanks that have a filtration section build into the back of the tank. These tanks look very nice because your equipment is hidden in that back compartment, and they are easy to setup and run.
