Starving snails?.

I’ve got a Fluval evo 13.5 with 3 x nas snails, 2 x astrea snails and 1 x turban snail. Also one cleaner shrimp.

At the moment I don’t have any fish, so apart from a couple of pellets a day I feed the shrimp (he misses some and the go onto the sand) there’s no other food/waste for the cuc to consume.

Whenever I feed the shrimp the nas snails come out and start climbing the glass before they fall off. Is this normal?

do you have visible algae? i’d personally add a small fish and maybe do a a few more pellets a day. a picture of the tank would also help :)

You could also try dosing a little phytoplankton every day. I have two tanks that do not have fish and therefore are not fed, but the snails are happy with dosed phyto, and there's no lack of green algae growing on the glass and rocks.

There’s some algae but most of it is on the top of the rocks where none of the snails go. Yeah I’m working on adding a fish, just so limited due to the size so trying to decide on one.

Yup, Phytoplankton it's also good for the corals.

I would try to make sure the nass snails get a pellet every once in a while. They don't eat algae, they are carnivores. Of course its unknown why its climbing the glass, but if you do a quick google search, it usually comes up that they are looking for food.

Yeah that’s why I was concerned. I could try putting some mysis in the tank? That would settle in the sand I’m guessing?

If you have a way of turning off the flow it helps... you can see their snout (or antennae) sticking out of the sand, if you put a piece of mysis right there they usually come right up and grab it right away.
