yes, he did not do well in a tournament, and the amount we put into his fencing, it enrages us to see how badly he did. He is only focusing on reefing. Which we fully support, but we don't pay for that, we pay for fencing.

Reefing will not get him anywhere in life, but fencing can.

Fencing won't. He's more likely to make a career out of photography.

We have 2 dogs, he has other tanks, and a gecko. We are taking away his main tank because he has already spent way over 1000$ on it, and we want him to start saving for a car, putting money aside for college. We are not in the right financial situation to be paying for something, and not seeing results.

If you aren't in the right financial situation to pay for something and not see results, stop paying.

He wants to do it. he loves it, but doesn't put the effort in.

If he's not putting in the effort, he doesn't love it.
