Hello. I have a 25 gallon waterbox. It has a cleaner shrimp and and Emerald crab with a few soft corals. My son loves clownfish. So I need to get at least 1 clown. What else can I put in the tank with the clown? Can 2 or 3 more fish? What do you all suggest?

Hey! It all depends. Most likely you can add a decent amount of fish, but I would make sure the biological filtration is strong. I would add some ceramic bio media and add extra bacteria to make sure the tank is extra stable and can handle the additional fish (it overall makes everything better). Some examples of good media are marine pure gems, or seachem matrix bio media.

As far as fish:
You can add another clown if you want, BUT keep in mind aggression is always a possibility. I would add one that's noticeably smaller so they work things out better.
Other cool fish are firefish (only if you have a lid though)
A goby/pistol shrimp pair is always really cool! Just make sure your rockwork is stable and that your tank is suitable for them (coral frags on sand may get moved which is a big con).
Neon gobies are great, as well as clown gobies
Jawfish are also good as long as you take into consideration there substrate requirements

I think Gobies and Firefish are amazing fish though and you cannot go wrong with them. Most of them are very peaceful, and it can be cool getting a bunch of different types of gobies.
Also Blennies are amazing! Tailspot blennies are amazing characters and are one of the few suitable for a 25 gallon tank!

Personally I think having products like Dr Tims First Defense makes acclimating and adding fish better and helps them deal with the stress. Also food is important too! The probiotics and nutrition is LRS Frozen food is amazing and I highly recommend looking into the LRS frozen foods!

Let me know if you have more questions! I have a 30 and 10 gallon tank so I definitely have some good nano experience! :)

Welcome to R2R! In a 25 gallon, you could reasonably fit about 4/5 small fish as long as you have good filtration and aquascaping. I suggest a pair of clownfish instead of a single one, as you will get to see more of their natural behaviors. Other than that, Meiacanthus blennies, royal grammas, firefish, various small gobies, or a springeri damselfish are all peaceful, reef safe options. I hope that this helps!

Hello and welcome.

I like to support my local fish store, but I got most of my stocking plans from BRS and from live aquaria.

welcome to the club
I set up a tank for a class room. Low maintenance required

I have two small clowns, added at the same time a pair of neon gobies, a small royal gramma, cleaner shrimp and a female emerald crab, and they seem to make a great set for a 20 gallon - room for one more fish

Welcome to R2R!! :)

I would suggest adding another clown fish, clowns are great when they pair up. Check you nitrates and phosphates to see up you have to many fish. Systems need nitrates and phosphates to grow, but to much nitrates and phosphates can really mess with your system.

Fish pee and poo in the system and cause your nitrates and ammonia(nitrites) to climb which in turn cause algae. Phosphate will do the same. Testing is important and a gauge. Testing you will truly know if you have the right amount of fish and coral balance to keep you nutrient balance:)

Have a great day!!

Thank you all so much!! It was very helpful. Also my daughter loves Peppermint shrimp. She names them Peppermint Patty.. Will the clown or emerald crab eat the peppermint shrimp? I am thinking 4 fish will do ok, since BRS TV had 5 fish in a 20 gallon, and mine is a 25.. well 23.4 gallon actually. But it looks as if it should be able to handle 4 fish if I can choose the correct ones. SO excited to be on the feed!!
