I don't really want the typical fish everybody has, so what are some of your favorites (reef safe) that are not-so-popular?

I'm gonna say no to a purple and chevron tang, they will outgrow the tank. I personally love lyretail anthias, gold stripe maroon clowns, valentini puffers, square tail bristle tooth tang (which would be ok in a 75), and neon gobies.

I was definitely thinking Anthias. Love Valentinis... Are they really reef safe? I thought all puffers were no go?

I have a valentini in my reef. He has never touched coral or any crabs. He has tried to nip a snail every now and then but always leaves them be, he hasn't killed or hurt anyone. I'm pretty sure most toby puffers can be reef safe, just depends on the fish. I'm probably going to get another one I love them so much :)

I would strongly recommend against a gold stripe maroon clown. One of the meanest fish in the hobby, and will make adding any fish after it nearly impossible. A 75 is plenty big for keeping tangs long term. I had a blue tang for 9 years in a 60g, which is 48" long. Chevron would be a poor choice though. I've got a blue, bristle tooth, blue faced angel, and about 6 fairy wrasses in a 90g predominantly sps reef.

Purple tilefish, grammica goby, Halichoeres rubricephalus.
