Stony Star Polyps

Has any one else ever had a Star Polyp plate and from its own stony growth? I went to cut mine back last night and ended up breaking it apart like a Monti Cap.

I use to have a colony very similar to this. It would send out growths and took much longer to spread. Looks nice when opened. Congrats on the find!

What you have is a Pipe Organ Coral, that's the reason it has a Stoney base. It looks like star polyps when open but of course star polyps have a soft base.

I never thought of Pipe Organ, I can peel it of the rock and it is soft. Not hard like Pipe Organ I have had before.

Mine does the exact same thing. I have some high end corals but this is the coral that everyone notices and likes. I might get rid of it to save my sanity.
