Hi just wanted to ask you guys what do you all use to store your salt I usually just keep salt in the buckets with lids the salt comes in and never had clumping but just was curious what everyone uses?

I do the same, I store it in the bucket it comes in.

I buy the smaller Red Sea size though.

Do you keep it in the bag as well or put the salt in the bucket?
I leave it in the bag in the bucket. I twist the bag up before closing the lid.

I was told that I needed to dump it out of the bag and mix it real good before use but I never do. I think that is just snake oil but IDK.

That’s what I’ve been told also and you’re right I can’t imagine it’s going to make a lot of difference. 🤷‍♂️

If it comes in a bucket Just keep the lid on it. I Use ESV salt that comes in a bag in which case I get as much air out as I can, twist it tight, and put a tie on it. I've had zero issues.

They told me only the salt in the bucket needs to be remixed, the salt in the bags not in the bucket are fine. I was mentally trying to figure out why storing in a bucket is different than in a bag without a bucket.

I just listen to what I want for the most part anymore. Seems like everyone is an expert of the hobby lol

So I should keep it in the bag in the bucket?

I do. Humidity is the biggest threat to salt so a bag in a bucket is great defense. I always twist the top of the bag super tight and close it with reusable zip tie.

If it is just salt in the bucket, I roll it around before use once in a while. Stratification absolutely happens especially with some of the poorly mixed salts. When it’s in a bag, it won’t mix when being rolled so I hand mix it with my measuring cup before use. I don’t go crazy here. I just scoop some to the side and try to get some scoops off the bottom half and bring them up to mix.

I’ll go back to using ESV salt once my AF salt is gone. Then mixing before use isn’t even needed

I use an old salt bucket with a gamma lid. I use IO purple and the lids are a bit tough to get off by hand. These gamma lids fit those buckets but the inside spins off for easy removal.

I normally buy buckets and roll them around on the floor and flip them over a few times before opening. If I buy bags on sale I figure the salt gets mixed enough when i dump the bags into the bucket.

I keep it in the bag inside the bucket and twist and seal the bag as much as possible. I also dump the full bucket into a clean 10g brute I purchased then pour it back into the bucket before adding to water each time.

I think Aqua forest uses a standard bucket so it should fit just fine. If it doesn't, most of the big box home improvement stores sell 5 gallon buckets pretty cheap.
