Hi All,

Today, I noticed a strange white cyst on my dwarf lionfish’s tail. It is white-ish opaque and about 1/8 of an inch long. There are no other abnormalities on the rest of the lionfish’s body, i.e. cysts, white spots, etc. Aside from the cyst on the tail, the lion fish seems to be swimming fine and eating fine. Can anyone identify this?

Is the white-ish spot raised a bit and cottony or fibrous looking? If so it may be lympho.

Yes, it looks like a tiny cotton ball. Looks like Fuzzy has lympho . I’ve read/heard that there’s no cure?

Yep there's no cure. It's a virus the fish will have for its lifetime. Best way to treat this "condition" is for pristine water quality and boost the lion's immune system by feeding it a wide variety of foods + some vitamins.

Also a little known secret to help the fish boost his immune system is to get Beta 1,3 glucan and put it in his food. It will help him get back to as normal as he can be!

I agree with lympho. Not to be alarmed. Good nutrition and clean water are about all you can do :)

Personally I use this:

I make my own food so I simply crush the pills and soak the powder in liquid Fish Vitamins like Vita-Chem or Kents... I then will take that and mix in whatever other foods I am adding. You can find TONS of fish food recipes. I know its a pain when you are doing it but I tell you what my fish have never been happier since i started making their food! If you need a link to making fish food let me know. Otherwise BRS was a great source as well! Here is there PDF on how they make their homemade fish food. Also Youtube has some great examples on how they do it or again BRS: https://youtu.be/Qg9Vp-RWNuQ

Hope that helps...
