I put 2 Straton X light fixtures on my Eshopps M130 a couple days ago. They are replacing my 5 kessil a360xe and 2 orphek OR4 lights.

Right off I noticed the spread of these lights. My back glass is noticeably lit up now. I have them mounted 12” from the surface of the water using the straton arms. It’s a soft even light like T5’s. But has shimmer! When I had my 60 cube I used 2 kessils and 4 t5’s. This seems very similar to that. I am running one of the preset light settings called “Toms Korallen”. I like the look of it the best. I am sps dominant. I love the look, it’s so natural and vivid. My yellow tang and regal angel are noticeably brighter yellow. The coralline algae is more defined. During ramp up/down the greens have the black light pop. If you’re into that look, these lights are capable of it. I’m more into the full spectrum look and love this preset.

I have an apogee 510 par meter that I used to set intensity. There is no acclimation setting in the app so I’m doing it manually. I have these turned to 40% and I’m at average 275 par 12” under water. They are pretty even. But there is a par drop off mid tank or at ends of tank depending where I place the lights. I think I’m going to add a third light and run them at a less percentage in order to get it more even. I don’t think it would actually be necessary but I’m going to. Looking at the tank you can’t see any uneven lighting. These definitely cover a 5’ tank very well.

I do notice more light spillage onto my floor than I had with kessils. I haven’t tried to adjust height yet. I have a makeshift shade so you can sit on the couch without seeing the lights. It’s not a direct blinding light but you can see the lit up individual reflectors.

I have read how people don’t think much of the app. I actually like it. It is very simple to use. Very simple to set up. I hope they make it changeable to inches instead of cm. F instead of C. Maybe add an acclimation setting. More options for presets for people that like the blue glow.

I will visit this again with updates on coral color and growth down the road. As of now, I am extremely happy with these lights.

Added number 3 today. At 8” under water at 37% intensity I’m at 300 par all the way across the tank. Very even now. Hopefully all my little acros start growing faster. My alkalinity consumption dropped drastically since adding these light. I use AFR and have had to reduce 20ml per day to keep from rising.

Update since adding the third light:

Something with the app won’t allow the three lights to follow the lighting schedule correctly. Two lights will ramp up/down correctly. The third does its own thing when it pleases. It’s not the last light added either. I go into the app and set everything again then they work as intended for a while. Then one light ramps up different. I uninstalled the app and redid it all and still same problem. I fixed it though, by installing “another aquarium”. Now two lights are run on one tank and the third is under a different tank I created. That seems to solve the problem. I emailed ATI support and hope they get back to me soon. The app is definitely a work in progress. The lights are great though! I love the look.

Thanks for the review! I'm waiting for these to come in stock at BRS so I can pick one up for my UNS R90. They look super clean.

They had them last Wednesday. That’s when I bought my third one. Only in stock for a couple hours. Check SaltwaterAquarium.com towards the end of June. One will light the UNS R90 extremely well

I fixed this by deleting and setting up a new aquarium a couple times

It’s an obnoxious problem and I suspect the Bluetooth hardware is weak - the app is extremely frustrating to use

It appears my alkalinity consumption bottomed and I will need to start watching it closer as the tank is getting use to the lights. I had to increase my AFR dosage slightly. I’m trying to avoid any STN or RTN during acclimation. I may increase intensity a couple percent tomorrow if alkalinity seems stable. The lights are working flawlessly and following the schedule now.

Thank you for the review. I was going with Kessil because I'd like to get that shimmer that looked close to my halides I ran for 15 years. I'm happy to hear the straton produce a similar shimmer. In all the fish stores with LED I see great color but no or poor shimmer and it drives me crazy. Lol. Those lights look so slick too!

They're really incredible - and that's in spite of the awful app and connectivity issues.

Update on my Straton X lights. They have worked flawlessly after getting the app bugs figured out. I’m seeing coral growth and more colors in the acro’s. Purples and greens seem darker now. I have no complaints about these lights and recommend them.

just ordered a uns r150. can i use only 2 x’s?

Yes you could definitely use only 2 on a 60” tank. What I noticed was a par drop off at each end of my tank. It wasn’t huge. But 4 to 6 inches on either end saw slightly dimmer light. I spread the lights apart and the center saw a drop and my favorite acro is in the center so I decided to go with three. I don’t have much for corals on the ends but I built my rock work wrong to have lower light on the ends. The par drop wasn’t really visually noticeable.

I also noticed this drop in alk consumption soon after changing to the Ati fixture, after a couple of werks im back up to full dose. Also using the toms k schedule. I was previously using the seneye device to measure par and found it about 100 par less that the estimated par given on the app so decided to go off what the app said rathert hat the seneye. From the readings youve got at 40 percent power with the apogee meter at 12 inches it sounds like i was right to do that. Needles to say my corals are now recieving the correct amount of light so the drop in alk was likely due to the increase in par.

Interesting. Which lights did you use before the Straton? I assumed the drop in alkalinity consumption was due to the spectrum shift. I measured par with my kessils and started the Straton with a similar par. Are you noticing any color difference in your corals? The greens are darkening and purple is more prominent with mine. I have one monti frag that doesn’t like all the light but I’m hoping will get back to normal soon.
