I've never been able to keep them long term, they always turn brown on me. Meanwhile everything else looks fine

Ime , it's chemical. Like warfare in the tank. I've had mine do it and be fine later.

I've had mine do it and not be fine. So..... keep an eye one it.

Happens when I feed my tank. Here's the Paletta pink tip on one of those occasions with its mesenterial filaments out.
