Any input on what to do to help this clam? I've had it 5+years I'm guessing and it's about 6-7 inches. I recently dipped my sps corals for aefw and got a little too much Bayer residue in my tank so I think that may be the problem. The clam was spawning the other day and pulls it's mantle in really far at times. It's lost some color and at best the mantle is curled up when the clam is open and it's mouth is puckered in.

I have a frag tank with brighter lighting I could move it to but I don't know if that will help or make it worse. Any suggestions?

I'd be doing major water changes and running carbon.

Sorry to hear this Gabe. Are you running extra carbon? I would put a nice bag in the main display for a couple days to absorb the remaining Bayer. Maybe a water change but I would caution on the side to make any changes in your parameters that could cause more stress.

I'm 99.9% sure I've removed the residual Bayer from the tank. I've been doing large weekly water changes and running carbon. I have a BRS dual reactor and I have one chamber filled with carbon. I killed off the pod population in the tank and have since re-seeded with copepods and amphipods and they are surviving so I'm pretty sure I'm past the Bayer situation.

That being said do you think it's just best to leave it alone? The only advantage to moving it to the frag tank would be that it's more light. I've never dealt with a bleached clam so I'm not sure if more light or less would help.

Are you running GFO? If so remove it ASAP. I'd run the carbon hard and change it every 2 days for at least a week and see what happens.

No gfo. I've sworn it off forever, clams or not. :)

I've been running fresh carbon for the last month.
