Here's the solution I came up with to add a little support to the floor joists under the peninsula aquarium I hope to have in place this month. The floor can support the load just fine on its own. My only goal is to prevent any slight floor sag.

Each jack can support 5,000 pounds, but I doubt they'll need to support more than a few pounds. I screwed two pieces of scrap 4x6 board to the top and bottom and adjusted the jacks so they're just snug. Their only purpose is to prevent the floor from sagging when the tank is full--nothing more.
