substrate vacuuming

Dang, I missed the voting period. So throw me in the “yes” category. I always have and always will.

I do run an AWC with apex so I do a manual WC once a month with the good old trusty gravel vac.

I have so little bed not covered by rocks or coral there is very little space to vacuum. I do some pockets here and there but not much

Missed the voting as well, but I no longer vacuum mine. Cleaning the sand is my Diamond goby’s Super Bowl. It took him about 4 days to take my sand from covered in algae to spotless.

I’d bet he turns over my entire sandbed 1-2x per week in a 25g lagoon.

Vacuuming substrate goes in and out of style in the hobby. Looks like it is back in style again.

I used to vacuum my substrate. I still do, but I used to, too.

If its like fresh water you will get vile water out but its far from clean. I emptied my tank when I was switching over to salt. I vacuumed mine every week but the substrate water was black when I did empty the tank . I never clean substrate now because I believe there are too many unseen things going on. By saying that I feel that it is part of the whole environment balance

I do with biweekly water changes.

Sand stays super clean.
