A few years ago I bred a pair of Onyx True Percula clowns and raised a couple of batches of babies. I wanted to try another variety of clownfish so I chose some Fancy Occellaris. These were captive bred and wouldn't even go into a rose bubble for months. I actually put a dozen baby Percs in with them to show them what to do with the Anemone. Two days later they were hosting and the baby Percs were on the sidelines. A nifty trick if you have a bunch of well trained baby clowns.

Here is a picture of the male when I first got them 2 years ago.

Here is a video of the pair now:

So now I have approximately 200 six week old baby Fancy Ocellaris clowns. They have been amazing to watch. This species develops a lot faster than the Percs that I raised a few years ago. Definitely Fun!

Nice work!

I also have a pair of fancy occelaris in my 75 gal reef, but mine started like the picture above and now are solid black with an orange belly.

Crooks-I was told they are suppose to have a darker/thicker black trace on them. I saw a differance in normal and fancy when I got mine from the lfs..

What makes them fancy? I too assumed it was the thicker than normal black edge between the white strips and the orange body of the fish as well as the outer edges of the fins also seems to be thicker than normal. You could also say that the orange body color is more vivid. Another interesting factoid is that out of 200 babies there might be 1 or 2 with a slightly irregular stripe pattern. (misbar) With the percs I raised there was a much higher percentage of misbarred fry.

Yes with 200 plus babies I'll probably sell or trade them to several local fish stores. I do have a friend that populated her 500 gallon tank with 300 ocellaris clowns that she raised. It was kinda crazy looking.

question i bred my tomato/cinnamon clowns cause the father is a tomato clown and the mom is a cinnamon clown my first batch i had to let go cause i was not ready but the second i was ready cause i had the rotifers and they are all big now but now is like is hard for me to keep the new ones alive past 4 days and i did it the same way i did in the beginning unless my rotifers crashed and all im feeding them is dirty water
