Parhippolyte uveae. Has anyone here kept one of these? I saw a few at an aquarium in SF when I was visiting and I loved them. They were as large as regular cleaner shrimps. It said they were peaceful and were often found in caves. I've never seen one for sale, so I'm guessing they're pretty hard to find.

Sorry - that graphic panel just made me cringe!

“Cave dwelling crustaceans often found in marine caves.” You don’t say! I always thought they lived in trees (grin). Then to say a tiny shrimp plays “an important role” in their ecosystem is a bit hyperbolic….

This is a prime example of a graphic that should just be a picture and name.

Was this at California Academy of Sciences or the Pier aquarium?

Steinhart is their old name. I used to write graphics like this, even longer ones! I then learned that visitors simply don’t read them, or if they do, they only want to know: how big does it get? Can I eat it? Will it eat me?

Oh interesting, it's called Steinhart everywhere online, so I figured it was the new name 😆

And that's true! I actually rarely saw anyone reading or flipping through pages on the touch screens.

The most entertaining moment was when I saw the little peppermint angel they've got there. Most people just passed by it, barely even paying attention. They were, however, extremely interested in the flashlight fish instead.

Maybe they resurrected the Steinhart name? I know when the new building opened, they were calling themselves CAS. I just looked at the email tagline for Charles Delbeek (who works there) and he uses both names.
I’ve not seen that angel, but I’ve heard about it.
They were one of the first aquariums to house flashlight fish in the US.
