Sump/ato ?? Aquaforest OG 275

New to this whole thing with questions.

I have an Aquaforest Oceanguard 275. Cycled and with livestock.

2 questions:

Sump levels- facing the sump , should the levels in the left filter chambers and the bigger middle one be the same? My middle chamber is always lower. Is that supposed to be that way? (See pic)

With chamber levels being different… I want to add an ATO. Which chamber in the sump should the sensor go? Obviously I ask as my levels are different.

The ATO goes in the return chamber.
The highest water level in a sump is usually where the water enters. The other chambers get progressively lower.
