So I am going to gave my 10 gallon sump built tomorrow, but I have a question. I have a three basket canister filter that was pretty expensive (for me). Is there a way I can utilize it as a reactor or some type of specific parameter filter.

I am only having an issue with nitrates ATM, but I plan on having corals. Any specific media that I should use that will benifit my main tank or should I just put it away for future use?

If there is a way to get a submersible refugium led inside you could create an algae reactor. I just re-purposed an aquamaxx biopellet reactor into an algae reactor. It works so well I'm building another one for another tank. You can still run your chemical media through it; like chemipure, purigen, etc.

You could put bags of carbon in it, maybe even well rinsed GFO in a really fine mesh bag. Just make sure nothing is tightly packed.
