Sump return pump question.

Hi so I was wondering if this pump would be sufficient for a 29 gallon tank. The overflow is up to 600 gph. The pump pushes up to 320gph. If not what alternative, for around the same cost.

I would not go with the pump you linked. According to what I read, it is rated at 317gph. This rating is at 0 feet head pressure. As head is added, the output will drop dramatically. Unfortunately, they do not provide a flow chart showing the drop but I would think at max head (4.7 feet) the flow rate would be well below half of the max rated output. FYI - a decent turnover rate is roughly 5x's total system gallonage.

As for a suitable alternative in the same price range; I do not have the time to do the research but recommend you research it for yourself. This way, you can be sure you're getting what you need.

Agree about the Jebao pump. Spend a few extra dollars now and be happy long-term. You didn't say if tank has a sump and what the head is. I'd go for an Eheim 1260 for reliability and quiet. Or you can try a Sicce Syncra. Fluval or Mag pump that move the water you need with slightly more noise. Or go for DC pump. You really only want to be moving ~150-300 gph through any sump for a 29g tank so back off on overflow gph.

Been loving my Sicce Silent. I don't really understand why dc pumps exist (aside from the ability to vary the flow). The syncras are dead silent.

I wouldn't get into an argument over it, but what I've been hearing on the youtube lately is that 4-10 times tank turnover is fine these days bc the bulk of your "flow" is coming from your powerheads.

Yeah the sump is around 4’. The overflow is a eshopps small. I will be adjusting the flow. I won’t have exactly 600 I’ll have like half of that. How about this one: I really want it to be dc, and I heard that jebao is a good brand.

I honestly think the first one I sent would work. The inappropriate reefer told me he used that one on his 45 on only 2/5 the power

i have a Jebao DCP-3000 for my 14G with sump, running at 30% and its silent.

I saw that one to, but it looks like an old model. Also did you get se those outputs privided, I would also have to find an output to connect to a 1/2” hose. Would the 3000 be enough?

I thought dcp was newer than dcw.

it came with attachments (2 x each) direct to PVC and hose barbs. I don't remember if my PVC attachment was perfect fit or if I had to mess with it on the lathe or not.

it came with a few different sizes of hose barbs, not sure on 1/2" exactly though.

Have no problem with Jebao. Find them just as quiet and reliable as pumps twice the price.
With that said would go bigger than 1200, since it’s dc controllable and you could turn it down
