I'm building a stand for my tank. It will be 49 inches wide by 19 inches deep. I'll have 16 inches deep inside for a sump. Length isnt an issue. I'd like to use a 30 gallon sump for a 90 gallon tank. Should I go to the 36. Both are trigger systems sumps. Height wont be an issue either. Thanks.

More water volume is a plus. The other factor is having enough room under the stand to comfortably work in the sump. Since it’s only a 6g difference I’d say go for what you like in that space.
Here’s what I’ve always used...... Ease of use < volume < cost < look < exact method.
No two tanks are identical, and trying to absolutely reproduce someone else’s results exactly usually results in failure. The primary thing for me is/was always how easy can I make this FOR ME (which is different for each person), then the added volume which reduces how many times I have to dig into it, then how much I spend on it, then the look which I could almost care less for since it’s not something on display all the time, followed up by the method (which again refers to trying to reproduce someone else exactly.)
