Sump water height

Both can affect the sump but primarily use the valve. If you are running the pump to high it will drain the sump because the natural overflow down can't keep up.

Last question which I mentioned in another post but would like more input….

Can you see the hose run for the reef mat to be an issue? Got it running under it then back up…

Drain valve between 50+ % open?

I don't use one of these so not sure if that matters or now. If it's a red sea product just ask their customers service via email.

Also just for reference most skimmers operate with 7 to 9 inches of water in their chamber. Mine prefers 7 so I had to have a skimmer plate underneath it to raise the height and achieve that 7 inch level even though there is 9 inches of water in that chamber. They are cheap plates and egg crate can work to raise the skimmer up also if needed.

So if you were to run the skimmer in the left chamber of your sump, it would need that much water.

Two options, elevate the skimmer as some have mentioned or run the level in that chamber at that level...can't tell if possible due to not knowing the height of that chamber.

Or run that chamber high to the second baffle height and put your skimmer in the next chamber and adjust the height with your valved return pump.
