I’ve noticed over the last two months that my sunset monti has been losing polyp extension. It is to the point now where there is almost no green showing. The interesting part is it is still encrusting and growing but absolutely no PE. What is the likely cause? All other SPS are doing fine. Here’s a picture from October versus this week.

tank parameters are stable and maintained via trident. I have not seen any of the tank mates nipping.

I have one myself. It’s more of a low light montipora. It does have a amazing orange color. The top fo it may be burned up from your lights . Just a thought.

Thanks for the feedback. It is getting 300+ par so maybe that is the issue? I just shined my flashlight in the tank and it looks like the polyps are extended during the night so maybe that is a good sign. Does anyone else have this coral in high light?

I have an aquaman monti under 300+ par and I think I’m in the same boat as you. It’s encrusted a little bit but it looks like crap and I haven’t seen PE since I got it back in March. The acros are all growing like crazy and loving life though! I’m hoping the monti will adjust over time but who knows!
