thank you, although im not sure how to do that manually. every web app i have tried for compression wont get them small enough...

I am assuming you are using some software to process your dslr output. I capture in RAW and use rawtherapee (on osx, but GIMP and photoshop can do the same) to convert to JPEG, downsize the resolution, adjust white balance (color temperature), exposure etc.
