Post 2 Corals. After not being able to grow anything but softies in my last tank, I get a big thrill out of seeing these LPS and SPS corals not only surviving but thriving and growing.

If your fish store is a good business (not all of them are!), then whether you buy the tank from them shouldn't have any bearing as to whether they'll do the setup for you. The cost might be higher to hire them if you're not getting the tank from them, but if you have a decent relationship with them I think they should recognize the value in keeping a customer who'll need to fill a 230 gallon tank with fish and coral happy.
I got a Planet Custom Tank. Got the local FS to order and set up. Took several months and visits.

I would also take a few moments and look in to other controllers like the Hydros or GHL
that said i do have an apex have not used it much got it a few years ago now but been off line as i took down the tank just now getting it back up. but the fusion app is pretty great.

the color and plastic of the hardware not really.
Have you considered a Calcium Reactor. Red Sea Chemicals almost $100.00 a gallon. Can pay for reactor in less than half a year.

I don't use RS alk/ca/mg. I use BRS. Eventually I may need a calcium reactor. That is beyond me right now lol's

How about ecotech M2's and I would suggest oe for backup after first year or 2.
I did do cor-20's and have 2 backups for the mp40's so at least there would be flow in the tank. Not at the surface but at least water movement

No3 3.3 and po4 .12 Can live with those! Would like no3 to be 5-10 and po4 .08. Those numbers would give a margin to drop.

Algae falling away. Prob. need to add a couple more capsules and prob. a 2nd treatment

All but 1 of the new corals frags (sps acros mostly) are now showing
a) bits of color seen under normal lighting and increasing each day and
b) most some PE,, also increasing each day.

A relief!!! Even the "dead" purple dragon eyes is n ow showing purple tips. No other color, just brown but the tips are def. turning purple

Watching the duncan wave. It must have at least 10-15 heads now and the new aussie duncan has much longer tentacles and I can see where a new head is forming. Hubbies fav coral (one of them) is a green tenius and it is positively hairy! His other fav are the large palys. The giant cinnamon are still pale. Either too much light (too bad) or too clean of a tank (working on that)

Anyone else inspect their corals daily? I check day and night lol's . Off to work.

Looks like my apex pmk pump is not working. This has been a lemon from day one!!!! Neptune support wants me to try plugging in into my energy bar but a lot harder than it seems. The cable goes into a pvc pipe from can to fmm module and 1 energy bar is too close to the wall. I can't see the plugs. Have to use a mirror. Will check the other one to see if I can access. What a pain. I have a bundle of hoses and cables going thru that pvc pipe.

I got my icp tests back. Looks good to me. Salinity low but I've been working on that. My apex probe just isn't accurate. Not sure on some of the too high or too low how much those matter. Others like calcium are different than what my numbers are and I didn't see potassium

Why not raise your salinity?
I have been. It's where it should be now. Not sure why it got so low. I just make up quarts of super high concentration and add it slowly to sump so it has time to mix. I don't do water changes so this seems to work

Tank update. Last test NO3 at 2 and PO 4 at .1. Will test again tomorrow.

Been turning off office lights by 10 and if I'm still on computer, sit in dark. Add the phyto and AB+ once dark as well. Last night I did my before bed "spy" 2 hrs later. I was shocked to see so many corals with feeding tentacles out. corals I've not see with the tentacles. All the acans, micromusa, blasto were out in force. A favia as well, though I'm thinking it is not a favia. My other 2 favias were not "out". Anyway, I was blown away!

The newest lobo is coloring up nicely and spreading a bit--not as tight a circle. Pleased also with the new frags--almost all have more PE now and seeing more color. 2 still in question but maybe 1 is doing a comeback. See color on the tips

Here is what I thought was a favia but the cells are merging and even now there are tentacles. Not sure what it is. But it has grown a lot and is even over growing the top of the plug.

Algae is slowly melting away. At 14 days now. Will give it a few more days and then prob. add some more. When I do a water change, I'll do it via awc maybe 5 gal every 1-2 days over a week or 2 and put carbon back in.. My alk/ca/mg are nice and stable. Figure I got another week if not 2 of reef flux to get all algae gone.

Have a new pmk pump coming. Mine failed. Went through all the neptune tech tests (and their really stupid questions, and their not reading what I'd previously written which made those questions stupid and frustrating!. Finally got somewhere and am getting a new pump. I have had issues with this pump since I installed it last Dec. Had to get the 2 optical eyes replaced within weeks.

tank a tad neglected this week (not really bad neglected). Need to blast the sand and rake etc. And clean side glass. Got a new living room sectional couch so been doing house stuff. Married 44 years and this is the 2nd new couch we've bought! Have had seconds from family or friends for the last 30 years!!! Also getting ready to set up my xmas village. Going to use the styrofoam from all those couch boxes!!!

busy time of year.

any idea what this is?

PO4 still at .19 Debating adding another bag of phosguard. Would like just under .1 though this isn't bad, especially with reef flux in the system killing off algae

NO3 9 again, a good number. I did blast and raked half my sand bed yesterday so that accounts for some of the number, plus the reef flux.

Algae really disappearing. Places where it was super bad is down to "fuzz". Still a few clumps. Proves it was mostly bryopsis. Day 14 yesterday. Going to leave it. Maybe add another half dose.

Not sure why but my purple stylo and 1 blue monti digitata are almost dead. I did see 1 damsel picking at the stylo0--it's right by where they are laying eggs. They were fine 8 /21. Will need to frag the stylo to save the tips. The 2 corals are touching but not sure that did it.

flow should be the same. I did clean the mp40 a couple weeks ago.

Today's numbers: no3 12.5, PO4 .11 Happy with both. Would still like po4 down to just under 1

Sort of proves that the bryopsis algae was consuming what nutrients I had. I feel like this is more of a true picture of what my tank is. Still have a few patches of algae. Going on 3 weeks of the treatment. Will leave for 4 and add a few more capsules. Seeing some chaeto die off but most is still surviving. Will remove some of the bunch that is not looking so good so that doesn't add to my nutrients. I'll Swish in the water to get pods out though.

Got my atk replacement from Neptune so need to get that hooked back up today. Yay, no more manual filling I hope!
